Will a carbon fiber steering wheel affect the hands-off detection for assisted driving?
Due to the material properties and structure of carbon fiber steering wheels, the carbon fiber areas on the steering wheel currently cannot be integrated with capacitive sensors. When assisted driving is activated, drivers must hold the steering wheel at the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions for the system to detect hand contact via capacitive sensing.
To improve this experience, we have added torque sensing to the new-generation SU7 equipped with the optional carbon fiber steering wheel. The hands-off reminder can now be dismissed by slightly turning the steering wheel. However, false alerts may still occur occasionally. Please consider the above information before deciding whether to select the carbon fiber steering wheel as an option.
It is recommended that drivers maintain the standard hand position at 3 and 9 o’clock when using assisted driving functions, always pay attention to road conditions, and be ready to take control of the vehicle at any time.
